In 2005, the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche group initiated its photo project "A hotel photo, an artist's view"
with the aim of supporting the arts and contemporary photography. The project is based on a simple concept: one
photographer, one single photo and one piece of text inspired by one night spent at one of the hotels. Initially
shown only in our online gallery, the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche group soon realised that they would like to expand
and explore the project with an exhibition and a prize. And so, in 2007, the first "A hotel photo, an artist's
view" photo prize saw the light of day. On 18th October 2007, a jury of industry professional awarded 3,000
euros to Frédéric Delangle. The public prize voted for by the combined staff of the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche
group, who were invited to take part in the event, went to Franck Beloncle.
We decided to set up a rapport between text and image in the corridors of the hotel. The texts reproduced in
the corridors were selected by us (feel free to check them all out, as each floor is different!).
On the first and second floors, we asked the company Muzéo to find images based on the following themes :
- 1st floor: The Sorbonne University
- 2nd floor: Explorers and great travellers
For the 3rd and 4th floors, we asked the photographers who had taken part in our photo project «A hotel photo, and artists's
view» to select a photo of their choice :
- 3rd floor: this was given over to Bruno Nuttens, who donated some of his extremely poetic photos of the sea
- 4th floor: we asked 15 photographers (Yury Toroptsov, Jean Stéphane Cantero, Eric Bouttier, Evangelia Kranioti,
Jérôme d'Almeida, Nicole Miquel, Bart Omeo, Morgane Com, Boischarbon, Olivier Gounot, Dabien Debin, Pedro Marzorati,
Caroline Constant, Ludovic Vallognes, Olivier Larivière, Cyril Perrin Bruno Nuttens...) to propose a photo about time passing.
The breakfast room was given over to JasonW, who gave us his particular view of Paris...
